He called on the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, in an intervention during the march, the women to move forward and take the initiative, adding that he can not reach peace and achieve development without the participation of the feminist element.
For its part, the first lady of New York said, Hirlan McRae (the wife of the mayor, Bill de Blazeo), that this process began in 1908, when thousands of women marched to the call for a few hours of work, and to better salaries, and the right to vote.

The march comes on the eve of the 59th session of the Commission on the status of women, which is scheduled to examine in particular the progress made in the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, 20 years after it was adopted at the Fourth World Conference on Women, held in 1995.
